When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Shed Light

Encouragement to shed light on problems on near a river.

Shed light on problems that need to be dealt with.

Today another tragic school shooting has happened in Santa Fe, Texas.  According to the news, at least 8 students are dead and others are injured.  Some victims are in surgery as I write this post. Two male suspects who are students at Santa Fe High School are now in custody.

Why does our society have so many big problems today?

I believe it starts at home, with the family. The family is the safety net that every person needs.  A person who has a good family safety net grows up to be much healthier mentally and spiritually.

But problems can also start when a child who has a good family safety net goes to school and others bully or pick on him.  Bullying undermines a person’s confidence and makes him feel like he is less of a person.  It also makes him feel angry and abused and depressed.

When a person who feels angry and abused for any reason reaches a certain point emotionally, he can no longer contain his anger.  What happens next is unpredictable.

Today I want to encourage you to be kind to others always and do one other thing.

In addition to being kind to others, please shed light on problems.   When you see someone being treated in a way that might lead to depression, please tell someone about it.  And do something about it, too! Do anything you can to improve the person’s feelings and situation.

Depression leads to heart problems and other stress related physical illnesses.  It also leads to suicide and violence.  It is a one of the worst epidemics in society today, but you can do something to alleviate it.

Here is one example of a problem I cannot solve that I am trying to alleviate. One of my friends feels bullied by her family and now has a serious health condition.  Her family has never supported her emotionally although the family claims to be Christian.  In fact, her family blames her for the emotional disconnection, but the fact is that she never felt supported or loved even as a child. Whether the family agrees with her point of view or not, my friend’s family should be supporting her any way possible in a loving spirit right now. But sadly they are not, just as too many students who have been victims of bullying are not receiving the support they need.

Although I cannot change this family or solve my friend’s problem, I am writing about these issues to shed light on them in hopes of changing her situation.  I do not want to lose a friend to a health condition that was preventable in the first place.

You can shed light on problems that you cannot solve yourself too. By doing this, you just might prevent tragic shootings, depression, and depression related health issues.  Simply shed light on problems that you notice in as quiet a way as possible to let others know that something needs to change.

If you don’t shed light on a problem, it will just remain hidden and not be dealt with. And leaving it hidden can lead to much worse, like violence or death due to stress-related health problems.
