If You Only Make One Resolution…

What would your one resolution for next year be?  Here is my choice.

If you only make one resolution, what would it be?

My one resolution is to love myself unconditionally.

Here is the true story that explains the reason for this choice.

Evy McDonald was a nurse.  Her doctors diagnosed her with Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1980. By the time her doctors diagnosed her condition, she was “a bowl of Jell-O in a wheelchair”.  They told her she only had 6 months to live.  She raged about the unfairness of her condition for a few days until she had a different thought.  “Since I am dying anyway, I will use the short time I have left to learn how to love myself unconditionally”.

Evy detested her body. Childhood polio had withered her limbs and she was also overweight,   Every day she struggled to think of anything positive about her body.

Three times a day, Evy rolled her wheelchair to her mirror and sat naked.  She sat there each time until she found something new positive to like about her body.  Whatever it took, she WOULD learn to like her own body and made up her mind to get rid of all of her negative thoughts and feelings.

One day she finally crossed a threshold.  She started to feel love and compassion for herself.  Also, she began to believe her body was a miracle of creation and that she herself was a blessed person who could enjoy the feeling of joy.

After Evy changed her thoughts, her health changed and SHE BECAME THE FIRST AND ONLY PERSON TO COMPLETELY RECOVER FROM LOU GEHRIG’S DISEASE.   Now thirty-seven years later, she is still ALS-free.

So if you make only one resolution for the New Year, please resolve to love yourself unconditionally. After unconditional love changes your thoughts, feelings, and how you interact with the world itself, it can also welcome the miracle of healing into your body.
