Last night I watched the news and learned something very interesting. Did you know that people are paying up to $80 an hour for platonic cuddling services?
Recently in Washington DC some people have been so stressed out that they needed a cure for their stress. Some of them have found their cure by paying $80 an hour for platonic cuddling.
$80 an hour sounds like a lot of money, but research has proven that cuddling helps people in both physical and emotional ways.
- Decreases negative factors. It decreases cortisol production, blood pressure, as well as feelings of fear and vulnerability.
- Strengthens positive factors. Cuddling strengthens the immune system as well as communication. Also, it fortifies the bonds and the intimacy level between two people.
When my husband had quadruple by-pass surgery in June of 2016, the first time I saw him post-op he was in the ICU connected to numerous pieces of medical equipment. In spite of all the medication and equipment trying to help him, he was not doing well enough for the staff to allow him to wake up. His blood pressure and vitals were just too high. Obviously, I could not cuddle him at that time, so I began to “cuddle” one of his feet in my hands. Shortly after I did this, his blood pressure began to drop and the medical staff allowed him to wake up.
Cuddling also saved the life of a premature baby for whom the medical staff had no hope.
Even if you or your loved one do not have a physical or mental condition that would make cuddling essential, it probably will improve both of your lives.
