Have a health issue? Look for a physician like Dr. Gotha!
I was used to hospitals, buildings where a few nondescript art prints adorn the walls, where some of the staff smiled sometimes, and the food was always bland. But this one was different.
Here every staff member smiled and most asked if I needed any help. In the hallways and cafeteria, I saw interesting pictures of patients who’d been here before me, with descriptions of how a particular doctor had improved their lives. The stories were interesting. I read as many as I could as I endeavored to find breakfast before my appointment.
In the cafeteria, I found a unique, gourmet oatmeal called “Papa Bear’s Porridge” and savored every morsel.
My husband and I walked to my fifth-floor appointment
with Dr. Heather Gotha, the new orthopedic surgeon.
After we waited five minutes, a nurse escorted us to the exam room twenty minutes early.
Dr. Gotha agreed that I had tried the known conservative measures to correct my foot pain, and explained the surgery she would perform as soon as the operating room could accommodate me in its schedule.
Less than a week later, the surgery scheduler called and told me that she had scheduled my surgery for that Thursday, two days away.
For too many years, pain had taken over my brain, consuming most of my energy without the effort of any new thoughts. It stole the part of me that wanted to live, my light and laughter; it felt like an invisible flame burning in my right foot and shooting back and forth to my knee.
But ten days after Dr. Gotha repaired my foot, all of that physical torture ended and hasn’t returned.
