Which exercise is the best exercise when trying to lose weight?

I used to be naturally thin.  Until I turned 47 years old, I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain any weight.  But after my 47th birthday, that changed.  Suddenly everything I ate became a part of me, literally. Suddenly every food and drink I consumed tried to become part of one of my body parts that I would rather it not become a part of.

There are various methods to lose weight and various techniques that help a person lose weight. I used to walk 10 miles a day and will walk 10 miles a day again in the spring.  But even walking does not help me as much as the best exercise for weight loss.

Can you guess what the absolute best exercise is for weight loss?  It is common sense, but definitely is not usually done by most people who want to lose weight.  Simply stated it is pushing, pushing your chair away from the table.

What are the rules for pushing away from the table to lose weight?

  • Even before you feel full, push away from the table.

Your stomach does not send the signal to your brain fast enough when it has had enough to eat, so the time to push away from the table is when you have eaten reasonable portions and before you feel full.

  • Push away from the table before dessert.

If you are trying to lose weight, the carbohydrates in dessert are adversarial to your efforts.
So simply leave the table before dessert is served.  Then take a walk around the block instead of
eating foods that are detrimental to your efforts to improve and maintain your health.

  • Push away from the table most at dinner, some at lunch, and less at breakfast.

My friend who has supervised Weight Watchers meetings for many years told me that if you
want to lose weight, you should eat most of your calories for breakfast, a lunch that is smaller than your breakfast, and a smaller dinner.  This works because your body has time during the day to burn off the calories you consume earlier in the day.  But if you consume your largest meal at the end of the day, your body does not have time to burn those calories before you go to bed and stores the calories you consume as fat.

There are more overweight people in America than in any other country.  And being overweight contributes to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and other health problems.  So if you want to do your part to help the American health crisis, do the most important exercise and maintain a healthy weight.
