When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Good In, Good Out!

Encouraging you to put good in your child on near a river.

Put good in and get good out.  Put garbage in and get garbage back out!

Today I watched a show about murderers who played violent video games.  Some of the murderers were raised in good homes. Others had many risk factors.  But they all had one common mental disturbance:  they had become desensitized to shooting people by the video games they played.

These games are dangerous to our society!

Did you know that Adam Lanza, the shooter in the Sandy Hook mass murder, frequently played violent first-person shooter video games?  Those who knew him said that he spent most of his time playing violent games in his bedroom.

Other mass murderers spent their time the same way.  James Holmes, who killed strangers in a theater in Aurora, Colorado in July of 2012, frequently played games such as World of Warcraft, a particularly addictive video game.  Jared Lee Loughner of Tuscon, Arizona, shot Representative Gabrielle Giffords and killed six others in January of 2011.  Jared was both mentally ill and a gamer. And there are other murderers who also spent their time playing violent video games.

My own ex-husband was a gamer.  His parents never allowed such things in their home, but when he got out on his own, he became addicted to violent video games.  I did not know this until I moved in with him after we married. I still have an ugly scar on my neck where he sliced my neck with his pocket knife less than 1 mm from my carotid artery and left me to bleed to death.

What can be done about this?

The only thing we can do as a society with all of these adults who have already played violent video games is make and enforce strict violence laws and weapon restrictions.  But we can change the future of our society!

Did you know that reading is the best predictor of a person’s success in life? Research in many countries shows that the best predictor of success in life is being an engaged reader, a reader who reads for enjoyment and who is socially interactive.

Parents, the future of our society is in your hands.  Please put as much good in your kids as you can.  Fill your kids’ minds with good things, and good will come out of them.  Please do not let your children play violent games.  Read to them even when they are babies so they will grow up enjoying reading.  And fill them up with love every moment of their lives.
