Got Bills?

Five ways you can reduce bills, from medical to heating bills.

Do you have bills and want to save some money?  Of course you do.

Here are some ways you can save money.

  • Grants that pay for children’s health care.

Do you have a child with medical expenses you must pay out of pocket?

United Health Care’s Children’s Foundation has money available to help you with your child’s medical bills.  Click here for more information.

  • Save money shopping online.

Do you shop online?

Time Magazine recommends a browser add-on called “Honey” to save money while shopping online.  Honey finds the best discount for your purchase and automatically applies it to your purchase.  Click here for more information.

  • Call your insurance company for discounts.

Call your insurance company. Ask if there are any available discounts you do not receive.  I found that if I took a defensive driving course, I could save money.  I took the defensive driving course online and now my comprehensive car insurance only costs $420 per year for two drivers on my car.

There are other discounts you might be able to get.   Discounts for attending a certain university or school, AAA membership discounts, and other membership discounts are just a few of the many discounts I have found.

  • Call every company you owe and ask about discounts.

We have Time Warner Cable.  Time Warner Cable is working on discounts for disabled, Veterans, and those over 65.  I keep calling to find out if these discounts are available yet.

Most companies have discounts.  Utility companies, repair companies, and insurance companies usually have discounts.   They do not volunteer information about their discounts but they usually do have them.

  • Maintain your home.

This sounds like a no brainer, but it is true.  Maintaining your home saves you money.

The house we have now has issues with the windows.  My husband found a way to fix them for less than one fourth of the cost of replacing them, replacing the jamb liners.  Click here for information about fixing windows in your home.

Since it gets very cold in the winters where our home is, this will save us much money.   We will most likely completely recoup the cost of the jamb liners in just one winter season.

  • After reading your article, "Got Bills?", I decided to look into reducing my unavoidable bills. I have researched and compared prices for my auto and homeowners insurance. By moving to a different company, I will be paying several hundred dollars less for both policies without reducing my coverage!
    Thank you for the suggestion!
