Overcome PTSD using these strategies.
PTSD is difficult to deal with. My husband and I both work at it every day of our lives.
We always try to put away painful recollections of the past. We do our best to exercise these strategies immediately when we are reminded of a negative memory or have a flashback.
An immediate loving touch.
We tell each other, “I need a hug”. ”I need a hug” is our code phrase for “my PTSD is starting to bother me”. A loving touch reminds us that we need to appreciate our present circumstance instead of focusing on painful memories and stress.
Sometimes, a painful memory causes us to need more than a hug. Then I massage and snuggle my husband. If you live alone, you might want to consider getting a small dog or borrowing one. We have two small dogs. They are very loving and love to be snuggled when we need the powerful effects of touch.
Sometimes we are alone or with acquaintances when we have a PTSD attack. At these times, my husband and I do our best to think about what is positive in our lives to force the negative memories to leave us alone. We listen to music, read books, and take deep breaths to refocus our minds from negative memories to positive thoughts.
I myself have been through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Therapy, and Exposure Therapy. Take any medications your doctor has prescribed.
Meditation.
Meditate when your mind is attacked by a negative memory. Meditation has helped me through many rough times.

There are times that our PTSD simply overcomes us, times when we do not take action to cope with our stress and disorder soon enough. At those times we simply have to lie down and read a good book. This helps to take our minds away from negative memories and thoughts. On our way to overcome PTSD..
