A Simple Fix

Has your computer or cell phone ever not worked at all? Here is a simple fix you can use.

In my past life, I worked as a computer repair technician. So now my friends call me when their computers do not work right and I fix them.

Last week, a friend complained that her computer was not booting properly and her programs would not run. I advised her to try these three things and call me back if they do not fix her computer. First, she should scan her computer with Esset (her antivirus program) and then restart her computer. Second, she should scan with a program that fixes a computer’s registry (I installed Spotmau in her computer to do this) and then restart her computer again. Next, she should power discharge it right away.

To power discharge anything, you just disconnect it from all power sources and hold down the power button for thirty seconds to a few minutes, depending on what you are power discharging. If a shorter amount of time does not fix the problem, you should try doing this for a longer period of time up to five minutes.

My friend’s computer is a laptop, so she had to both remove the battery and unplug it to power discharge it.

After she tried these three things, her computer worked perfectly again. This simple fix enabled her to fix her own computer even though she has no technical skills.

Power discharging helps other devices besides computers to work correctly. When I have taken items to repair shops, the first thing they have usually done is to power discharge them.

Another friend has an older cell phone that she has dropped several times. She keeps power discharging it and it keeps working.

You can use the simple fix of power discharging to try to fix any electronic device in your home. Then if it does not work, perhaps you do need to take your device to someone who can fix it for you.
