Have you ever found it is time to find another way to achieve your goals?
I love to help people so I joined a service organization my stepdad was connected to many years ago.
When I joined, I was excited. Participating in this group would allow me to participate in fundraisers, and the money from the fundraisers would help local families in need at Christmas.
But then I moved to a different state, and in my new state, the same service organization functions differently. Here it does not help local needy families and here it also provides opportunities for behaviors I abhor, like public criticism. In fact, one of the leaders of this service organization responded to my concern about public criticism by telling me that criticism is a learning tool. While I agree that criticism is a learning tool, I also believe that people should not be criticized publicly. Especially people who are simply doing their best to voluntarily support a service organization.
This service organization has an important meeting coming up, and I will not participate in this important meeting.
I am not giving up completely on it. Every organization has people in it and people are capable of change. But at the moment, I am looking for other ways to achieve my goals. So instead of participating in the upcoming meeting, I will be looking for other avenues to help local people.
If you have ever run into a similar issue in your life, what have you done about it? I hope that you keep the door open as long as you can instead of simply closing the door on a chapter of your life.
When you find it is time to find another way to reach your goals, do that. But remember that organizations are made of people and people are capable of change!
