When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Planning to Vote?

Are you planning to vote in the upcoming election?  If so, please read this before you vote…

Before an election, Americans are filled with anticipation for change.  We all think that if our candidate wins, our candidate can and will make a difference in how politics affects our lives.

But this is true only if we think carefully about who we vote for before we enter the balloting booth.

Suppose I am voting for a US Congressperson.  First, I consider the three issues that matter most to me that this person might improve upon. Then I consider each candidate’s position on each of those three issues.

After I consider this, I research each candidate’s record on the internet.

  • Has he or she followed through on campaign promises in the past?
  • What does he or she claim to believe in?  Does his or her past record reflect what he or she claims to believe in?
  • Has his or her campaign been a mudslinging campaign or a campaign about what he or she believes in?
  • And, does he or she really listen to constituents?
  • Does he or she promote violence or peace?

If the answer to any of these questions is negative, I ponder whether my conscience will let me vote for that person.  Usually, it does not so I vote for someone else.

When I must choose the best of several bad candidates, I ask myself who is likely to do the least damage to our country.

If the candidate is a military veteran, that person gets a few extra points on my tally sheet.

Party affiliation, race, or gender do not matter to me.

Are you planning to cast your ballot?  Please do not vote based on what you see or hear in political ads or in the news.  Remember that the news broadcasts and political ads are always biased.  Also, please do not vote based on whatever political turmoil is going on.  Just ignore all the turmoil and vote on the issues that matter to you!

Whatever you do in your life, please think carefully and then vote!

Even though your vote is one vote among many, it does matter.
