What every parent wants for his or her children…
Dear Children,
When you were born, I had dreams and hopes for you. I had hoped that you would all be successful in whatever careers you chose, that you would all be healthy throughout your lives, that you would all find love, and that you all would get along.
Yes, all of you are successful in your careers, all of you work to maintain your health, and each of you has finally found love. But you kids just do not get along.
Now that I am old and my health is failing, it is my last wish that all of you get along.
Why could you not just let things be instead of ruining my relationship with your sibling as I get sicker and sicker each day? Don’t you know that I need all of the love and support I can get, not just your own love and support? Your destroying my relationship with your sibling will not give you a ticket into heaven, you know. Instead, it will bring God’s judgment against you. You say you are a Christian but you do not act like one!
Never forget that the negativity you put out
always comes back to you!
I love both of you anyway but I feel angry that you two do not get along. Now my alienated child feels justifiably hurt and he is refusing to speak with anyone in the family. If you do not fix this before I die–if you do not forgive each other and treat each other lovingly–I will haunt both of you. I feel certain the alienated sibling will forgive and move past what his older brother has done if his older brother only asks him for forgiveness.
So children, thank you for honoring three of my hopes. Now it is up to you to make my fourth request happen. Part of growing up is learning to get along. Today I am asking you to to start mending fences and loving each other.
With all the love in the world,
Your Dad
