What happened after I accidentally hit the wrong button? Read on to find out…
Recently, a medical problem has forced me to practice on a keyboard upstairs in our home instead of enjoying the grand piano that lives downstairs in our living room.
Although I am fully aware that I don’t play as well at night as I do during the day, last night I ended up practicing when I was tired, right before going to bed.
Eager to learn to play “My Heart Will Go On”, from the movie Titanic, I counted the rhythms and then fingered the notes. But, as tired as I was, I knew I wasn’t getting it right.
So I set the metronome for the speed the music indicated for the song and then hit the button to activate it. But, oops! Instead of pressing the correct button, I selected a different one.
At first, the sound my Yamaha keyboard produced surprised me, and I wanted to change it back to piano mode. However, I played it a few times as a violin and thought about what I heard. I realized that the result of hitting that wrong button was great! My keyboard then sounded like another instrument instead of a piano. Of course, I spent a few minutes figuring out what I had done to choose another instrument. Then I chose the flute and musical tools for this song and a few others I’ve been learning. I played piano for over an hour last night and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Sometimes in life we simply miss the choice we perceive as the correct one. Normally this causes us to panic, because we humans like things to be just as we expect them to be! But, if we are open-minded, we can learn and benefit from a new experience.
Would we benefit by applying the lesson I learned last night to life in the US?

Just a silly song, but…
Is fighting really necessary?
Can you help me accomplish this?
Exactly what does the term “the gives” mean?
