An adult will probably never part from what he learned as a child.
For most of my childhood, I lived with my divorced Mother and siblings. I learned many things as a child.
Here are some of them.
-
Religion
My church choir mother taught me about religion.
“You had better pray the juice you spilled will come out of the carpet!”
-
Time travel
Tired from her job, my Mother taught me about time travel.
“Be quiet or I will knock you into the middle of next week!”
-
Irony
Impatient with children, my mother taught me about irony.
“Keep crying and I will give you plenty more to cry about!”
-
The Circle of Life
In her anger, my mother taught me about the circle of life.
“I brought you into this world, and I will take you right back out!”
-
About receiving
Even more angrily, my mother taught me about receiving.
“You will get it in the car on the way home!”
-
About humor
Even more impatiently, my mother taught me about humor.
“When you step on a rusty nail and your foot falls off, don’t come running to me!”
-
About my roots
Pinching her pennies, my Mother taught me about my roots.
“Shut that door behind you. Do you think you were born in a barn?”
-
And about justice
My favorite thing my Mother taught me about is justice.
“One day you’ll grow up and have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you!”

Fortunately, my Mother was not my strongest role model as a child. I watched my Mother’s and my Grandmother’s interactions with others, and I quickly decided I did not want to be like my Mother. I wanted to be like my Grandma! Grandma was kind and loving and patient. And, everyone she knew respected her!
Parents, please watch what you say and do. Most children do follow their parents’ examples and grow up and act like their own parents. Be the person you want your child to be, not the person your anger and frustration cause you to want to be!
Enable your child to soar like an eagle over life’s storms! As a child grows up, give him or her positive role models!
Let the encouraging words in these bobbiejrae posts help you
soar like an eagle above life’s storms.

Are you feeling sad?
