When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Beware! Beware! Beware!

Encouraging you to beware of toxic people on near a river.

Beware of these people!  They do not have healthy relationships!

Have you ever known someone who seems to drain all of your energy? We all have.

It is in everyone’s best interest to identify these people before they drain us.  But how can you identify a toxic person before he shows you what he is really about?

Toxic people have some common traits we can use to identify them with before they drain us.

They are manipulative.

Toxic people constantly try to get others to do what they want done.  They use others to accomplish their goals.  Their manipulative behaviors eliminate equality in relationships.

They are judgmental.

They criticize everyone around them.  It is always about what everyone else is doing, not what they are doing.

They don’t apologize.

Since everything that goes wrong is always someone else’s fault, they never apologize.

They are inconsistent.

Toxic people change their attitudes and perspective according to what they want to happen.  They are kind when they want something from you, though.

They make you prove yourself to them and defend yourself.

Do not debate with a toxic person.  They will make you prove yourself to them and defend every word you say.

They are not caring, supportive, or interested in you.

Toxic people are only interested in what is going on in their lives, not what is going on in yours.  They do not support you when you need support.

***

Toxic people are also dysfunctional people.

I have had a few toxic people in my life, but these dysfunctional relationships began to wear me down. Weary of trying to prove myself to them and of putting up with their self-centeredness, I finally gave up on them.  Now I feel much better, less drained and more energetic.  I have more energy to put into the healthy relationships I have with the healthy people in my life.

Parents, encourage your children to learn to recognize toxic people and have healthy relationships!  Talk with them about how the other people in their lives act and help them to recognize healthy and toxic people.

Especially if you suffer from depression or anxiety or PTSD, you need to beware of  toxic and dysfunctional people!

Beware of toxic people and have healthy relationships with healthy people!
