Celebrate the Prince Way!

Happy Fourth of July! Do you remember the song by Prince called “1999”?

When I was in high school, we danced to a song called “1999’ by a popular musician named Prince. This song addressed a concern during the Reagan administration, nuclear war. The arms race was on and some people feared Armageddon.

The song encouraged us to dance like it was 1999, right before the big deadly event would happen, to celebrate the life we had at that time.

This Fourth of July, I hope we all celebrate the way Prince recommended. We need to celebrate the freedoms we Americans have now: the freedom of speech, the right to peacefully protest, the protection of police when life goes awry, and many other things.

In many countries, people don’t have these freedoms

and Americans may not have them much longer, either.

There are many in our society who are trying to change our current way of life. They try to manipulate the minds of others, particularly the younger generation, by inciting anger and violence. These negative aspects of human nature have led some to demand the elimination of the police who protect us and help keep us free. Yes, some officers have hurt citizens, black and white, and must be punished for their crimes.. But, New York City has cut its police funding by one billion dollars. Can this budget cut do anything good for New York City? I just hope that every New Yorker can afford private security, because they may be waiting a long time when they call 9-1-1.

ANTIFA members have been traveling all over our country destroying peace with their violence. In our nation’s capital, the FBI arrested ANTIFA supporter Jason Charter for leading the attack on a statue of a historical figure, Andrew Jackson.

While we may not agree with past leaders of our society or erecting statues that honor them, we need to learn from them so we don’t repeat their mistakes. And destroying public property helps no one. But the media has glorified the actions of Jason and his cohorts, thereby encouraging others to follow suit.

Fortunately, I live in one of the most peaceful parts of the United States. But still, when I watch the news, I want to celebrate the Fourth of July like Prince suggested in his song ‘1999’. I want to dance as if life as I know it will end soon, because it just might.

By the way, as you celebrate, please do so safely! Hand sanitizer if flammable. Please don’t allow anyone to set off fireworks with it on his or her hands. Instead of using sanitizer to eliminate covid on your hands, please wash them instead today!

I wish you and your family a safe great Fourth of July!
