Close your eyes, and picture yourself where you are in your life at this moment.
Keep your eyes closed and picture yourself where you want to be one year from now, two years from now, and then ten years from now.
Now open your eyes and find a piece of paper and a pen.
Draw two columns on the front of this piece of paper, one for things you need to do to get where you want to be in the future and the other for the things you need to learn.
First, think about what you need to do to get where you want to be. Ask yourself what steps you need to take. Do you need to take some classes or get some internship training? Or do you just need to start working toward your goals? Write these thoughts in the appropriate column.
Second, what do you need to do to learn to take those steps to make your dreams come true? If you want to enter the medical profession as a nurse, where can you get the education and training you need? How can you finance this education and training? (Student loans are not the best idea!) Again, write these thoughts in the other column.
How long do you think it will take you to learn what you need to learn and take those steps?
On the back of your piece of paper, draw a timeline for doing these things.
Share your thoughts and your plan with the people you care about.
Tell them why you want to do this, why it is important to you. Also, ask them to hold you accountable for doing what you need to do in the time indicated on your timeline.
Finally, close your eyes and dream about your life after you have made your dream come true. Believe in yourself and know that you can do it. Then wake up and start making it happen.
