Four ways you can keep your brain in “grow mode”!
Hello. This is your brain again, giving you another important message.
How I function can decline as you get older, affecting your memory, ability to focus, processing speed, and concentration. But it does not have to!
The latest research proves the concept of “neuroplasticity”. This is the idea that I can grow and change and improve how I function until you die. All you have to do is put me back into “grow mode”.
How can you put me back into grow mode? You can build brain volume!
Try New Things
Trying new things builds new brain connections and increases the size of the hippocampus. The hippocampus is vital to your memory function). You can learn a new foreign language or take a new route when you go for a walk to build new connections and increase the size of your hippocampus.
Maintain Pathways
When you were young, your teacher taught you how to do math without a calculator. If you want to maintain my pathways, you should calculate the tip by using me instead of a calculator.
I eliminate pathways that you do not use, so you need to use as many pathways as possible!
Build Spatial Skills
Build your spatial skills by suing a map to navigate instead of a GPS device.
A 2006 study of London cab drivers showed that their brains grew as they navigated without GPS assistance.
Do Puzzles!
Games and brain teasers provide perks for me. The best ones are the ones that make me think, “Eureka! I found it”. When I think this thought, I have made new connections.
