Do you need an n95 mask? Here is where you can get them and some other important information about the coronavirus.
Coronavirus could kill me, since I’ve had an impaired immune system for years. . I try to learn and do as much as I can every day to help myself. Here are some of the things I’ve recently.
Want to get the facts?
Like most people, I want to know how many cases there are near me and how people in my area have died. These are useful things to know.
Don’t you want the same information?
Just go to weather.com, enter your zip code or any city or state you want to get information about, and click on the “Covid 19” tab at the top of the page.
You’ll see how many people in your area have been diagnosed and how many people have died. If you scroll down the same page to the “Interactive Incidents Map”, you can hover over other areas near you and get their statistics.
What should I take with me when I go out?
Like you, I’m not accustomed to taking coronavirus supplies with me when I walk out the door.
I set a small basket on a table that I see right before I walk out the door. It has hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and masks.
Where can I purchase protection items?
These items will help keep you from catching this virus: n95 mask, rubber gloves, hand soap, and hand sanitizer.
n95 Mask
An N95 mask protects you more than any other type of mask because it creates a seal with your face around its edges. It keeps airborne infections from entering your body through your nose and mouth.
During times of crisis, scams abound. There are many of those out there, such as masks labelled as n95 masks that aren’t what they’re advertised to be as well as companies that take your money without sending you what you’ve ordered.
To protect you from the virus, your mask needs to have an adjustable strap that wraps around the back of your head (instead of strapping around your ears), and a certification by the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
I have found one legitimate company that sells masks that meet these criteria. Glowyy.com makes them in Garden Grove, California. When the orders outpace the number they can produce in the next seven days, they list them as out of stock. But keep checking, they make more!
The n95 masks on Amazon with these characteristics have been out of stock for weeks. There may be other legitimate companies that sell NIOSH-approved n95 masks, but I haven’t found them yet.
Rubber Gloves
When my husband and I shop for groceries, we take rubber gloves. While we’re in the store, I wear the gloves and my husband only touches our shopping list.
Rubber gloves are available on amazon.com, 100 for $3.99.
Hand Soap
Soap doesn’t need to be antibacterial to help prevent coronavirus, but you do need to lather your hands with soap for twenty seconds to clean them well. You can buy hand soap on Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and Target.com. Dish soap works as well.
Hand Sanitizer
My husband and I both carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer in our pockets. You can purchase these on wish.com.
At home we have larger bottles of this useful item, along with soap.
Antibacterial Wipes
We carry these with us when we go out to wipe down the carts or baskets we touch. These can be purchased on walgreens.com.
Cleaning spray
Lysol spray is out of stock everywhere, so we found a liquid version also made by Lysol at Ocean State Job Lots. I mixed it in a spray bottle, 1 part solution to 2 parts water.
