When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Our Best Solution…

Encouraging you to use our best solution on near a river.

Our best solution to PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

Both my husband and I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and PTSD.  I also have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder. We muddle through each day by loving and supporting each other.  But there is one thing we do that helps us cope more than anything else. Human touch.

My husband used to jump and tremble in bed every time he heard a loud sound while sleeping, even if the sound came from outside.  This jerking actually caused him to wear holes in the bed sheets where his heels rested.  His sleep disruptions touched my heart and I started snuggling and hugging him every time we heard a loud noise.  After a few years, he no longer jumps and acts upset when he hears a loud noise.  And our bed sheets now remain fully intact.

I believe he no longer jumps when hearing a loud noise because he now associates the loud noises with being held and loved.

He has done the same thing for me.  When I see something that reminds me of my ex-husband, he hugs me and touches me.  We have now been together for four and a half years, and now things that used to remind me of my ex-husband make me think of my hubby’s’ loving touch. This is true even when he is not with me when I see a reminder of my ex-husband.

Systematic desensitization

Our best method of helping each other with anxiety and PTSD is called systematic desensitization.  It means breaking the link between the negative stimuli and anxiety feelings.  We are breaking the link between our negative stimuli and the anxiety it used to create with human touch.

Human touch does wonders for every person, especially those with PTSD, anxiety, and depression.  Human touch does more to quiet the mind and uplift the spirit than any other treatment.

If you struggle with the symptoms of any of these conditions, it is wise for you to consult a professional.  Then, you might want to consider using human touch as therapy in addition to doing what your therapist recommends.  Believe me, it really works!

If you live alone and cannot use human touch therapy, you might want to try pet therapy.  Having a dog to love is the second best option to human touch. If you cannot have a pet, try music therapy--listen to your favorite relaxing music every time you encounter your negative stimuli.  Keep trying until you get results!

Remain “in touch” with your loved ones as much as possible!
