My husband and I have started a club. Would you like to join our club?
Would you like to join our club? My husband and I have started a club. It is called the “Our Bodies Are Falling Apart Club”.
We started this club when I was 50 years old. At that time, I had had 17 surgeries and was getting tired of doctors, procedures, medications, and doctoring. Then my husband had only had five surgeries, but two of his were major—quadruple bypass surgery and a distal pancreatectomy to remove tumors in his pancreas.
This club has several rules.
- No matter what happens to your body, you must enjoy every day of your life to its fullest. This means continuing to exercise as much as possible and eating as well as you can regardless of how you feel (or what you feel like eating).
- Each week, you must spend as much time as possible with family and friends.
- You must also spend as much time as possible laughing.
- Belief that the impossible is possible is a must. Members must believe that they can overcome any physical issue that comes their way and never give up trying to do this.
- Furthermore, you must ask yourself “Why not me?” instead of “Why me?”
- And, No WHINING! Club members who whine must pay a $5 charge for each instance of this behavior to BJ Rae, who will donate the entire whining fund to charity.
- Also, you must be willing to help someone else every day of your life.
This club is open to members of all ages. Its founders recognize that bodies of any age can start to fall apart, so we invite anyone of any age to join our club.
Anyone can afford the club’s dues. Pay your dues by simply hugging two members at each meeting.
Instead of complaining about our problems, we find ways to help each other. Why do we do this?
- Helping someone else improves the lives of both the helper and the helpee.
- It makes both parties feel better emotionally and physically.
- When we are having health problems, we need to help ourselves as much as possible.
