A Former Proud American

Are you still proud to be an American? I’m not!

Dear Mr. Biden,

You have embarrassed me as well as many other Americans.

During a signing ceremony in the Oval Office, you said the memorandum you signed reverses your predecessor’s attack on women’s health access.

I disagree with your opinion

of what your signature represents.

When I was sixteen years old, a man raped me and I became pregnant. My Mother said I’d caused embarrassment to my family and took me to multiple abortion clinics. I refused to cooperate with those ‘medical providers’ and carried my son to term.

As I held my son in my arms, I knew I had done the right thing. I nursed him and loved him around the clock for days. Then I signed the adoption papers. With tears in my eyes, I handed Andrew to the social worker so she could place him in the arms of his loving parents waiting in the hospital.

When he was twenty-three years old, he thanked me for giving him life despite pressure from my family to do otherwise and for not giving in to the embarrassment I must have felt about my situation as a teenager.

I believe women don’t need your

 ‘expanded access to abortion’.

For many years, abortion laws have given rape victims the option to abort a child. And, if pregnancy might cause us to feel less than proud, we can use effective multiple forms of birth control or simply keep our legs crossed.

I know that you’ve changed many things unilaterally. Instead of seeking the bipartisan support you said you’d need to change US policy before you took office. You act like a dictator with your pen daily. You say you’re concerned about our economy, but you just killed thousands of good-paying jobs with your signature.

Mr. Biden, when your grandchild is old enough to understand reproduction, what will you say about abortion? Do you honestly believe a desire to not have a child justifies killing a fellow innocent, unborn human being?

The unborn does feel pain.

Now more will die while being tortured

because of you.

Shame on you!

Perhaps you should remind yourself that power corrupts

before you pick up your pen!

While I used to dread getting older, now I’m glad I’m no longer young because of what you’re doing to our beloved country.

I am no longer proud to be an American, thanks to you and your pen!
