You may not be familiar with this name, but you do know him!
After his parents drove from their Norwalk, Connecticut home for his birth, Warren Wilhelm, Jr. was born in a Manhattan hospital, with a silver spoon in his mouth. Both of his parents had federal jobs, which they left during his childhood because they were communist.
In the 1980’s, due to his great admiration for the Soviet-backed Socialist Sandinista, he migrated from the US to Nicaragua to attend college.
When he returned to the US, he joined the Nicaragua Solidarity Movement of New York. Its goal was to end capitalism and replace it with ‘Democratic Socialism.’
This man changed his name to Warren de Blasio-Wilhelm in 1983 ,
In 1991, he met Chirlane McCray, whom he married at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY three years later. The couple honeymooned in Cuba in spite of a US travel ban.
He claims to be very proud of his Marxist work, and also associates with these matters:
- Although he decries the role of big money in politics, he collects support from the biggest names in political spending, including George Soros and his sons Robert and Alexander.
- In 2016, the New York City Campaign Finance Board fined him $48,000 for finance violations that included failing to report transactions and taking contributions from ‘unregistered political committees’, according to the board’s determination.
- The public has criticized him for singling out the Jewish community, after his tweets directed at this group following his breaking up of a funeral procession. The Anti-Defamation League described his actions as scapegoating.
- In 2014, he denied public space to several New York City charter schools, provoking controversy among advocates of school vouchers.
- This man endorsed marijuana legalization in crime-ridden New York City in December of 2018, calling it a “once in a generation opportunity to get a historic issue right for New Yorkers”.
- His relationship with his local police department, NYPD, has been strained, combative and frosty.
You hear this man every day in the news.
