Do you have true sight like this blind young boy?
Feeling disappointed in life, I sat down on a deserted park bench to gather my thoughts. My day had not gone the way I had planned. And if that wasn’t enough, a strange young boy approached me.
Holding a dying flower with wilting petals in his hands, he stood beside me and announced, “Look what I found!”. Thus wanting him to go away with his dead flower, I faked a smile and turned my head.
But, instead of leaving, he sat down right next to me. And placing the flower under his nose, he declared, “It sure smells pretty, and it’s beautiful too. That’s why I picked it, Here, it’s for you.”
Beautiful?
This weed he was giving me was dying, not vibrant with color or life. So I did not want to accept it. Thinking he might leave me alone if I took it, I reached for the flower. Then I replied in my annoyed voice, “Oh, just what I needed”.
Instead of placing the flower in my hand, he held it in the air. Then I realized the truth about this kid, This very positive young boy was blind.
Shocked, tears started running like rain down my face. Graciously I thanked him for picking the best flower. “You are very welcome,” he smiled. Then he ran off to play again.
Wondering how he managed to see a self-pitying woman sitting on a bench, I realized the young boy was completely unaware of impact he had just made on my day.
Perhaps from his heart he had been blessed with true sight.
Through the eyes of this blind young boy, I could see the problem was not with the world.
Instead the problem was me.
Holding that wilted flower up to my nose, I breathed in its beautiful fragrance. For all of the times I myself had been blind, I vowed to see the beauty in life. To be grateful for my life and appreciate every second that I have.
Then, watching him in the distance, I noticed he was about to change another life with his true sight. He picked another wilted flower and approached an unsuspecting old man.
