When someone betrays you, you need to time to heal.
Yesterday someone I care about betrayed me and today I happened upon written proof of this.
Betrayal is one of the most devastating experiences a person can have. Only someone you trust can betray you, and when someone does this, you feel a loss. A very painful loss of trust.
Being human, I cried and screamed when I first discovered this. My betrayer trashed me with cruel and untruthful statements to someone else.
I spoke with a friend to have a shoulder to lean on, but I did not tell her what exactly my betrayer had done. I only told her I was very upset. She understood and prayed with me.
Then I took a drive. Although I wanted time alone to think, I permitted my betrayer to ride with me in the car because I thought that the person wanted to work it out with me. I drove for two hours on mountain roads at night until we had finally concluded what will happen in the future.
At the moment I am still trying to forgive. After I manage that, I will try to reestablish trust. But my betrayer must earn my trust by sticking to our agreement in the future.
My betrayer said this was done in the name of “business”. I guess my betrayer has a warped sense of business.
At any rate, when someone betrays you, you must go through the grief process. Denial/shock, then anger and venting emotions, then sadness, then acceptance. The grief process does not happen overnight. It takes time.
I happen to believe that when you have an issue with someone, you go to that person and speak privately about the problem. You should never speak poorly about anyone to another person. And you should never speak ill of anyone you supposedly care about!
Right now I am simply going through the grieving process, but I will eventually soar like an eagle over this storm. I hope that if anyone betrays you, you soar over the storm of betrayal in time also.
