When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

You’re IT!

In this game of tag, you are now the IT. Tag someone else and continue the game.

Encouraging you to play the it role on near a river.

Did you feel that?

When you opened this post, a hug jumped out and grabbed you.

That hug just tagged you and now you’re it!

As a child, I am sure you played tag.  Now as an adult, you get to play tag again.

What do you have to do as the it in this game of tag? You must hug as many people as possible today, and then tell them you just tagged them and now they must spread as many hugs as possible.

Why should you do play hug tag? Here are two reasons to play this game.

First, hugs are good for you.

They offer many great benefits. Hugs:

  • Reduce stress by showing your support.
  • Protect you against illness.
  • Help you communicate with others.
  • Boost your heart health.
  • Make you happier.
  • Help reduce your fears.
  • And reduce your pain.

Second, hugs are reciprocal.

The giver of a hug gets a hug back.  Because they are reciprocal, they remind us that love flows both ways, that to get love you must give love.

There is a saying by Virginia Satir, a respected family therapist, “We need four hugs a day for survival. We need eight hugs a day for maintenance. We need twelve hugs a day for growth.”

Eight or more might seem like a lot of hugs, but while researching and writing this article I asked my husband, “How many hugs a day do you like?” He said, “I’m not going to tell you how many I like, but it’s way more than eight.” His answer really made me smile and touched my heart. And, I realized how organic and deep the need for hugs is.

So please participate in this game by hugging people physically or by sharing this post!  Your participation will help both you and the person you are hugging!
