Dear Passion,
Words, from the age of three, I fell in love with you.
When I hid in the back of a closet with a flashlight, a tape, a tape recorder, and a book, you gave me an escape from the fighting in my home. When I understood you, you became part of my soul. The more I focused on you, the more power I had over my life.
At age four, I wrote words and phrases. And, by age seven, I wrote simple poems. To nurture my soul and strengthen my mind and spirit, I recorded my thoughts and feelings.
Now you sometimes you arouse me from sleep in the middle of the night, fill my brain, and beckon me to my computer. I always obey your calling.
Through my triumphs, failures,
highs, and lows,
I write.
And you cleanse my soul and
enable me to
get beyond
my past.
Thank you for giving me inspiration, a hope, and a dream. Every time I respond to your call, I become more energetic, more potent, and more effective.
Thank you for transforming my heartaches into a gift and for helping me to speak my mind. For enabling me to cope with the hard times in my past and have happier days. Most of all, thank you for helping me to fulfill my promise to Grandma to share kindness, love, hope, and encouragement every day of my life.
Deep inside myself, I’ll always be the three-year-old in the closet treasuring an escape from her violent home life.
Words, thank you for your influence and encouragement. Thank you for enabling me to use my life story to uplift and encourage others.
