BJ’s New Year’s Resolutions

Make sure you can use your New Year’s resolutions to improve your life!

Encouragement to make New Year’s resolutions on Near a River.

Do you live up to your New Year’s resolutions each year?

Every New Year’s many people set resolutions they cannot possibly live up to, then they feel like they have let themselves down when the next New Year’s quickly rolls around.  This year I am establishing my own doable New Year’s resolutions.  They are as a follows.

  • To set boundaries instead of trying to control things beyond my control.

Knowing that I cannot control everything that happens in my life, I resolve to set boundaries, to enable myself to have an easier time controlling how I respond. My response is my greatest power.

  • Let go of all of my expectations of others and life itself.

Expectations are often the cause of depression and unhappiness, so I resolve to not let my expectations bring me down.  Instead, I will only have expectations of myself—how I react to others, how I treat others, and how I treat myself.Avoid worrying.

Any time spent worrying is time wasted.  Worrying never changes the outcome.  Instead of worrying, I resolve to do my best to understand the lesson in every situation, and make the best of it.

  • To focus on what really matters and let go of what does not really matter.

Trying to focus on what really matters, I resolve to ask myself about any issue in my life, “Will this matter to me a year from now?  Five years from now?”  If it will not matter to me in the future, I will not rent it any space in my brain.  If it will matter in the future, I will deal with it rationally and calmly.

God really matters to me so I will focus on Him every moment of my life in 2018.

  • Manage money so it does not manage me.

Understanding that credit card debt is unnecessary, I resolve to avoid spending money I have not earned to buy things I do not need. I will not live on credit cards.

  • Eliminate mental and physical clutter.

Recognizing I do not need more of anything to be happy, I resolve to simply keep the clutter clear and keep my life simpler.  Both mental and physical clutter only complicates my life.

  • I love these recommendations instead of resolutions. I am going to spend more time reflecting on these and making application of the same in my own life. Thanks for sharing and may God bless you in a real good way in 2018!
