“Thoughts are boomerangs returning to their source. Choose wisely which ones you throw.”—Unknown
Did you know that thoughts are boomerangs? A boomerang is something you throw that returns to its source. No matter what direction you throw it, it comes back to you. Thoughts are the same way.
You can throw out a thought that you will never be successful in life, are no good, and have no talents. And if you throw this thought out, it will come right back to you.
Why do thoughts return to us like boomerangs? We act according to what we think about ourselves.
Having lived a very hard life with many challenges, I know how hard it can be to boomerang positive thoughts instead of negative. Here are three ways to generate and send out positive thoughts.
-
Faith
For many years, faith kept me alive. Literally. It was all I had when I lived with my ex-husband and he continually abused and threatened me. Faith in God literally kept me alive. When I was certain he would kill me, I looked forward to heaven.

The Mind of a Child
My husband has told me that I am forever optimistic, that I never see the glass as half empty. He is right that I cannot see any glass that way, because I think like a child when under stress.
When a normal, healthy child is under stress, he does not think that life will always be hard. A normal, healthy child trusts that Mom or Dad will fix the situation. Just as a child thinks that Mom or Dad will fix the situation, I trust in my heart that God will fix the situation in His time and in His way.

Focus
If you want to boomerang positive thoughts that will return to you, try focusing on these two things.
First, keep your mind on what you want, and keep looking for ways to get it. Be clear about your goals and also be confident that you will accomplish them, sooner or later. As I wrote recently in another post, can always will but can’t never will.
Second, look for the good in every problem or difficulty. When things go wrong, as they often do, simply say, “That’s good!” And then set about finding something positive about the situation. I have already found three good things about my amputation surgery last week: that the surgery scared my hammer toes straight, that I will always get a 20% discount on any pedicure because I only have 8 toes, and that I no longer have enough toes for my husband to play the piggy game with my feet and tickle them.
