Every person needs self-confidence to succeed in life.
Having self-confidence is a key to success in life. A person needs confidence to believe he can reach his goal.
How can any person develop confidence, including a child?
Simply by doing what he is afraid to do.
When I was a child, an intense fear kept me awake most of every night. I had poor self-confidence and was afraid to try new things.
One day I confided in my older brother. He enabled me to face my fear. The next day I felt more confident. I tried new things. I was much happier than I had been before.
If your child lacks confidence, you can help.
Get him to draw pictures of what bothers him most, what scares him, etc. Then one day when you are relaxing with him, bring out the pictures. Tell him how beautiful they are. Then ask him to explain them to you.
To persuade your child to explain them to you, point to parts of the picture and compliment the colors he used. Ask him how it makes him feel but do not ask him what a part of a drawing is. He may believe you really do not think his picture is beautiful because you cannot recognize what he has drawn.
Then take some time to digest what your child has told you. Try to figure out what he fears and then guide him to do exactly what he is afraid to do. Hold his hand while he is doing it.
My brother made a huge difference in my life when he sat next to me while I inspected the floor under my bed for monsters. You too can make a huge difference in the life of a child who lacks confidence.
A confident, successful child becomes an adult who makes a difference in the world. Change the world one child at a time!
