When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Following Others

Encouragement to not practice following others on near a river.

Have you ever followed others and found yourself in a place you did not want to be?

Children love to run around outside.  A few days ago, two preschool children I know were running around on the road I live on. Energetic that morning, the two year-old boy ran straight up the mountainside first.  Then the three year-old girl followed.

After running up for about 20 feet, the girl turned around and looked down.  Frightened, she froze as she stood and gripped a tree. She could not figure out how she had gotten there or how to get down. Recognizing her need, her Mom walked up and carried her back down.

Have you ever followed others and found yourself in a place you did not want to be?  If you have, you know you usually need help to get turned around.  When no one is there to help you, you have a real problem.  You simply have to figure out how to get out of the situation you are in.  Undoing your situation can take a long time and is definitely stressful.

Perhaps we can all learn a lesson from the little girl who had to be carried down the mountainside.  If we think about where we are going and what we are doing first, perhaps we will not just follow others and end up in trouble.

Always think before you follow others!
