When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Enjoy Life!  Go Leaf Peeping!

Encouraging you to go leaf peeping on near a river.

Take a mental health break from your daily grind and go leaf peeping!

Do you enjoy nature?  Do you need a break from your daily grind?  If so, read on!

I love to leaf peep, to drive and look at the leaves changing colors in the New England states.  I recently moved to one of the New England states and have been watching the leaves.  Soon it will be time to leaf peep!  Mid-October is the expected peak time to view nature’s fall beauty this year throughout most of New England.

Where can you go to leaf peep in New England?  Here are some places I highly recommend.

Back roads through Maine to New Hampshire

Just pick any town in Maine and any town in NH.  Then map out a drive.

Route 88 from Falmouth to Yarmough is great.

Route 35 along the Eastern shore of Long Lake from Naples to Harrison is beautiful too.  Just stay on Route 35 north of Harrison all the way to the Bethel area.

You can also drive west on Route 25 out of Portland and see great leaf displays through Cornish and Standish.

The Mt. Washington Valley, next to Gorham, NH, is a great place also.  Take US 2 from Gorham to Shelburne and then on to Bethel, Maine to see great foliage!

Western Maine

In Western Maine, take Route 17 in Western Maine. The Rangeley Lakes Scenic Byway passes through many photographic leaf displays and overlooks lake views.

Take Route US 2 with Route 26 through Grafton Notch.

Acadia National Park in absolutely gorgeous while wearing nature’s fall’s beauty.

Vermont Views

In Vermont, the following routes are particularly great for this adventure:

  • Route 108 from Stowe through Smuggler’s Notch
  • Lincoln Gap Road off of Route 100 in Warren and the overlook along the Lincoln Gap Trail
  • Lake Willoughby near Westmore, VT
  • Take Vermont Route 102 through the Connecticut River Valley

In Vermont, you might want to plan your trip for the last two weeks of September to maximize your family’s viewing pleasure.

Make sure you watch for moose, bear, and deer as you drive these roads.  These animals tend to surprise you as they wander around on public roads.

Parents, take your kids out into nature.  Let them enjoy it.  They will continue to enjoy nature throughout their adult lives and will owe you many thanks for your family trips!

Enjoy nature and all of her beauty with your family.
