A simple way to find motivation to change your world.
Sometimes we realize that something needs to be done but we cannot force ourselves to get up and do it. I often want to just lie in bed in the morning and watch the news. But I do not do that. I get up and make our bed and take a walk instead. Then I check off each thing I need to accomplish that day from the list I typed the night before. Making our bed starts my day moving in the right direction.
Here is a podcast I just heard on Youtube:
If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.
If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day.
It will give you a small sense of pride. And encourage you to do another, and another…
By the end of the day, that one small task completed will turn into many tasks completed.
Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter.
If you can’t do the little things right, you’ll never be able to do the big things right.
If, by chance, you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made.
A bed that YOU made.
And a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.
This podcast tells it like it is. If you are down and need motivation, just complete one small task!
My husband puts the same message a different way. He says the GOYA principal is what he uses for motivation when he feels down and just wants to lie around. GOYA means “Get Off Your Arse”. Just get up and do one small task. Then another, and another, and another.
If you suffer from depression, accomplishing even small goals will help you to feel better. If your child is depressed, enabling him to accomplish even small goals will help him feel better. Lightening your depression is one way to change your world!
