What behaviors do successful people practice?
When successful people talk, I listen. Here are some of the behaviors I have noticed that all successful people practice.
If you want to follow in their footsteps, perhaps you should practice these behaviors, too.
-
Persistence
Nothing in life comes easy. So pick a project you feel passionate about, plan ways to make it happen, and stick with it. Be resilient and persistent along the way to making it happen.
Did you know that twelve publishers rejected J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book before one small publisher took a chance on it? Both J.K. Rowling and her publisher are glad that she kept knocking on doors!
-
Planning ahead
Planning ahead helps you focus on what needs to be done and how you will do it. It also enables you to hold yourself accountable for meeting goals in a timely manner.
-
Learning from mistakes
Failure is not the opposite of success, it is part of success. Consider your mistakes opportunities for improving yourself, your approach, and how effective you are.
Do not dwell on your failure. Instead analyze what you could have done differently and how you can apply this lesson to your future.
-
Taking time for yourself
If you do not want to burn out while you are aspiring to a lofty goal, take time for yourself each day.
Fulfill your own personal needs by spending time with family and friends, enjoying hobbies, and doing things that help you to understand yourself better (such as keeping a journal).
-
Waking up early
Among notable early risers are Apple CEO Tim Cook, TV Show Host Rachel Ray, and founder of Virgin Group Richard Branson. They all say that waking up early gives them a jump start to their day without any distractions. It also allows them to start their day by working out and eating a healthy breakfast.
-
Exercising and eating healthy.
Your mind and body are intricately linked, and your body’s health is responsible for the strength of your mind.
-
Investing in your personal growth.
A big part of success is having diverse experiences and knowledge that allow you to problem solve effectively. Investing in your personal growth enables you to have these diverse experiences.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, read at least four hours a day during his childhood. Steven Spielberg went back to school in his fifties to study electronic arts and film.
-
Giving back.
Pay it forward! Share your expertise! Always remember that what goes around comes around!
If you want to good things to happen to you, perhaps you should do good things for others.
