Even without a college education, you can promote yourself into success and earn the money you need to earn.
Years ago, my husband started working at a Ford Dealership called Rice and Holman as a part-time evening cashier.
He had no college education and had to start somewhere.
The parts manager offered some advice. “If you don’t have time to do something right the first time, how will you find time to do it right the second time?”
My husband took this advice to heart. His boss noticed his hard work and soon promoted him to a salesman.
Again, as a salesman, he continued to do whatever he needed to do to obtain the expected result. And he became the sales manager.
His district manager noticed the quality of his work and gave him his own dealership. My husband had worked his way from part-time evening cashier to manager of a Rice and Holman dealership in less than ten years.
In the 1980s, at a party one night, he met John, a computer programmer who needed some part-time help. Fascinated with computer programming, my husband offered to help him. At first, he did lower-level tasks for John. While doing these simple functions, he watched and studied what John did.
One day, John ran into a problem on a project he was doing for a client, and my husband went home and wrote a program to solve the problem. Impressed with my husband’s solution, John gave my husband higher-level programming tasks to complete.
Unfortunately, cancer claimed John’s life. Naturally, John’s clients became my husband’s clients.
Even without a college degree, my husband has been more successful than many people with higher education.
