The Real Story

Yes, there are two sides to every story.  How can you figure out which story is the real story?

Even when two people experience the same event at the same time, they tell two different stories about it.

Why?  Each person looks at life differently.   We all filter the stories about our lives through our own life experiences.

Sometimes those filters are negative, sometimes positive.

The sad thing is that too often people judge others based on their own version of the story.  Although they do not know the reality of the experience of the person they are judging, they still somehow feel qualified to judge another human being.

Even two siblings who grew up in the same house can struggle to figure out what the real story of their childhood is.  Every person who has at least one sibling knows this.

My own sister judges me and disagrees with my version of my childhood. However, she is almost 9 years older than myself. She left home at age 18 and did not come back to our home, not even for holidays.  When she left our childhood home, she was unhappy and vowed to never return.  But now she says that my childhood was a healthy one.  Maybe she filters her opinions of my childhood through her adult experiences, whatever they may be.

How can a person look around his own filters to discover the real story? Just climb above life’s chaos, confusion, judgment, hurt, and pain of past wounds by forgiving those who helped create your negative filters.  Let go of all resentment, anger, bitterness, and hatred.  When you let go of all of these negative things, you will see life through the positive filters of a healing heart.

Only then will you figure out what the real story is.
