When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

The Small Things…

Encouraging you to deal with the small things on near a river.

It is the small things that eventually ruin your life.

On the slope of Long’s Peak in Colorado lies the ruin of a giant tree that stood for 400 years. It was a seedling when Columbus landed at San Salvador, and half grown when the pilgrims settled at Plymouth.

During the course of its 400 years of life, lightning struck it 14 times! And the countless avalanches and storms of four centuries thundered past it. It survived them all.

In the end, however, an army of beetles attacked the tree and leveled it to the ground. The insects ate their way through the bark and gradually destroyed the inner strength of the tree by their tiny but incessant attacks.

A forest giant, which age had not withered, nor lightning blasted, nor storms subdued, fell at last.  Beetles so small that you could crush them between your fingers caused it to finally come down.

There is a parallel in this story that should be a warning to you. Most of us can survive times of crisis. We summon the strength of faith and resolve for almost any battle we face head on. Whether it is in our professional or personal lives, we often overcome great challenges. It is the small things like jealousy, anger, resentment, pettiness, and negativity that eat us from the inside and bring about our downfall.

Unlike a giant tree, we can identify and fight those moral or ethical insects. But we must be constantly on guard.

Get rid of your anger! Get rid of your jealousy.  End your resentment!  Do not be petty or negative.  Instead, replace these negative traits with positive ones.  Replace anger with kindness, jealousy with trusting love, pettiness and negativity with positive thoughts and actions.

These small things lead to depression and anxiety.  They can also ruin your life.
