Ben and Jerry’s story shows everyone how to make their dreams come true.
Back in 1978, two high school friends named Ben and Jerry could not afford any higher education. So they leased a gas station in the college town of Burlington VT, planning to open a home-made ice cream shop there.
How did they learn how to operate an ice cream shop? They completed a mail order ice cream making course. Then, after they found a foreclosure notice for a restaurant in Gorham, NH, they headed off to NH in a borrowed pickup truck with their low-balance checkbook. There they bought as many stoves, refrigerators, and display cases as they could fit into their borrowed pick-up truck.
They returned to Burlington and started their first ice cream shop.
Now forty years and millions of ice cream cones later, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is a well-known household name. They started out with just a dream and very little money, and they made their dream come true with lots of creativity and hard work.
Ben and Jerry are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their business this month.
The lesson we can all learn from Ben and Jerry’s story is that you can make your dream come true, even if you do not have much money or education to start with.
