What are your true colors? What are you really made of deep inside yourself?
Last year, we bought a home from the Cosgriffs. We have had lots of trouble with this home, from carpenter ants to appliances breaking and plenty of other repairs. Until last weekend, we only had one appliance left from the original appliances, the refrigerator.
Over the weekend, the fridge totally crapped out on us so we called our appliance repair man Chris. He was out of town but came over yesterday morning. He replaced the relay switch in the back of the fridge and said that if this did not work, we had to replace the fridge because the compressor was the problem.
Well, late yesterday, we realized that the fridge remained warm and we would have to get a new one. We went to the local appliance shop and found one we liked and scheduled the delivery for this morning.
Before the scheduled delivery, I called Chris and let him know that the relay had not worked and that we had a new fridge coming in an hour. Chris came right over. We did not know why he had come over, but he simply verified the compressor was dead and offered us a refund for his repair.
In spite of the fact that we had just lost an entire fridge and freezer full of food and spent several days eating in restaurants, we told Chris not to worry about a refund, that it is not his fault that our fridge’s compressor died. We also told him that he had spent his time trying to help us with our problem and his time is valuable.
Then I took him to our garden where he gathered a large bag of fresh veggies to enjoy.
We could have been angry about the situation in general and taken it out on Chris. But we chose to be kind, because kindness is one of our true colors.
