Be a Victor Not a Victim

Encouragement to be a victor not a victim on near a river.

Do you sometimes feel like a victim?

Each day I try to focus on my blessings, not my misfortunes–and I try to be positive and humble no matter what situation I am in.

Monday we lost power due to a severe storm with high winds and lots of rain.  We lived without power and water for three days and two nights.

The house was cold and being unable to shower made me start to feel grumpy and irritated and depressed.

Then yesterday just before 9 pm, the power suddenly came back on.

As soon as it came back on, I did things with pleasure that are normally mundane tasks.  The laundry, the dishes, cleaning the wooden floors, scrubbing the toilet.  And I actually showered for the first time in four days.

All the while, I was thrilled to be doing each thing.

Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away.  It is a time when we reflect on all the things we are thankful for.  I am thankful for my loved ones, for freedom, for my abilities to write and to play the piano, for having a roof over my head and food on the table, and also for basics like running water and electricity.

I count my blessings, not my problems.  Especially when life does not go as planned, like the past three days during the aftermath of the storm.  For the past few days, I have been thankful many things too—a roof over my head, food to eat, and  a wonderful loving husband and two  loving small dogs.  But today I have even more to be thankful  for, and I am definitely very very very thankful today.

I could have simple viewed myself as a victim of Monday’s storm, but I chose to be victorious each moment for the past few days by being thankful for what I had.

If you are struggling in your life and are considering making a single positive change in your life, try counting your blessings every moment you are alive.  Counting blessings will enable you to see yourself as a Victor not a Victim. Being a Victor will help you to overcome depression, anxiety, and many other problems in your life.

Count your blessings and being victorious in your life.
