When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

What Do You Treasure?

The Houston TX Harvey victims wisely treasure friends.  What do you treasure?

Every day we make choices, and our choices reflect our values and what we treasure. And our choices also affect our success in life!

Here is a lesson in values, a comparison between two Texas businesses and the choices they have made.

Gallery Furniture owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, whose business is near Houston, has long been known for his charitable actions. During Hurricane Harvey, he allowed Harvey victims to shelter at his furniture store.  He allowed people with wet and dirty clothes to rest on all of his new furniture.  One night during their stay, Mack fed the Harvey victims sheltering at his furniture store steak and potatoes for dinner.  He showed them love as much love as he possibly could when they were going through a hard time. Obviously, his primary interest is the people in nearby communities, not in his profit margin.

Mack McIngvale’s business has flourished because of his actions.  Galley Furniture has been  blessed with much business because of Mack’s choice to allow Harvey victims to shelter at his store.

Ken Dunn’s business is in Austin, Texas, not far from Houston. He is connected to a new publishing company called Rebel Press, another publishing company called Next Century Publishing, GoRead.com, and has other resources to “help” writers achieve their goals. I found out that Ken Dunn and NCP took a large sum of money from another writer in addition to myself and refused to refund the money when both contracts did not work out. He has also fallen behind in paying the goread.com writers to whom he owes money multiple times in the past two years.

Mack McIngvale’s business is flourishing while Ken Dunn struggles to pay those he owes money in a timely manner.

If a man has a good heart, he sows bountifully.  A man acts according to what is in his heart.  (I Corinthians 6:9-16)

What is in your heart?  What do you treasure?

Put others first in your heart and you will sow much and reap much.  You will have good relationships with others that will benefit your own life. But if you put your own greed first, you will not reap much!

Focus your mind on helping others and let your actions reflect your thoughts. Never be greedy, and never try to hurt another person in any way!
