May you always have the gumption to do and think what is right!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I have noticed in life that things some things are always a struggle.\u00a0 When I thought about these things, I realized they were either not good for me or simply not a good fit in my life at that time.<\/p>\n

For example, take my relationship with my biological mother. It has always been a terrible struggle, even when I was a small child. We have never felt close and have never been able to talk about anything besides the weather and other generic things. When I was twelve years old and didn\u2019t understand what was happening to my body, I asked one of my several adopted moms. I just didn\u2019t feel comfortable enough with my mother to speak with her openly about my concerns.\u00a0 They were too personal and she was never personal with me.<\/p>\n

It was difficult, but I eventually found the gumption to stop letting my lack of closeness with my mother bother me. \u00a0Since I made this decision, I feel happy because I focus on the many people around me who care about me instead of on someone who dragged me down.<\/p>\n

The Cambridge Dictionary defines gumption as<\/h4>\n

\u201cthe ability to decide what is the best thing to do in a particular situation<\/h4>\n

and to do it with energy and determination\u201d.<\/h4>\n

I have never lacked gumption. In high school on prom night, a group of my peers passed around a joint. When it was passed to me, I said \u201cNo, I don\u2019t want any!\u201d \u00a0Not smoking that joint was the best thing for me to do and I said no with determination!<\/p>\n

Having lived over half a century, I have even more common sense. No, I don\u2019t let anyone or anything determine what I do or think. Instead, I search for the truth about an issue, study the facts, and then decide what is best. This means I don\u2019t rely on opinions voiced by any news station to form my opinions of a particular person. Most of the time, the news is biased and filled with opinions, not facts.<\/p>\n

When the news says something negative about any person or politician, I search until I find factual information that contains no opinions on the same topic.\u00a0 Then I search more to verify what I found. After I have done these things, I form my own opinion of what to do or think about that particular person.<\/p>\n

When I don\u2019t have time to research something, I make a note to look it up later. But, in the meantime, I don\u2019t believe a word of what any reporter is saying!<\/p>\n

It is never good to let others form your opinions for you!<\/h4>\n

Please exercise your gumption daily!<\/h4>\n

If you do, you\u2019ll have fewer struggles and more control of your life!<\/h4>\n
