What are protons? Can we learn anything from them?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I studied both chemistry and physics in college. Over thirty years later, I remember very little of what I learned in these classes. However, I do recall a few things that apply to every person on this planet.<\/p>\n

Together protons and electrons form nucleons. One positively charged proton and one negatively charged electron balance each other out and combine with neutrons (which have no charge at all) to form an atom. If the protons and electrons are equal, that atom is electrically neutral. However, if an atom has more or fewer electrons than protons, it has an overall negative or positive charge.<\/p>\n

In an atom, protons and neutrons bind inside the nucleus, and electrons orbit the nucleus. \u00a0Everything in the universe is made of atoms. Electrons are tiny compared to protons and therefore carry less weight.<\/p>\n

We humans are like these positively and negatively charged particles.<\/h4>\n
