{"id":1726,"date":"2017-05-02T15:10:06","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T20:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nearariver.com\/?p=1726"},"modified":"2026-09-10T11:36:44","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T15:36:44","slug":"lessons-living-happily-near-river-bj-rae","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bobbiejrae.com\/nearariver\/lessons-living-happily-near-river-bj-rae\/","title":{"rendered":"Live Happily"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em>Some strategies to live happily.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We have two dogs, Simba and Chico.\u00a0 Both are rescues and each one has his own issues but we love both of them anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Recently we walked them to the cul de sac at the end of our street.\u00a0 As we passed our neighbor&#8217;s home, Simba and Chico pulled to greet Sue.\u00a0 They love Sue.\u00a0 We spent some time talking with her.\u00a0 As we talked, I watched Simba and Chico and realized they are truly happy creatures.<\/p>\n<p>I thought about what they do to be as happy as they are.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Be careful who you spend time with.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Spend time with people who love you for who you are.\u00a0 Avoid those who make you feel worse about yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Simba and Chico know that Rob and Sue love them.\u00a0 They pull to get to Rob and Sue every time they see them.<\/p>\n<p>But they both avoid those who do not love them.\u00a0 We used to use a plumber who hated dogs, especially small dogs.\u00a0 They made certain he did not get near them.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that just being around negative people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/articles\/201705\/how-handle-the-most-toxic-people-in-your-life\">affects your physical and mental health<\/a>?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Take time to smell life\u2019s sweet things.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Every time we take Simba and Chico outside, they stop to smell lots of things.\u00a0 They simply refuse to keep walking when they notice a good smell nearby.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that\u00a0laboratory studies\u00a0and\u00a0animal studies\u00a0have shown that certain essential oils have\u00a0antibacterial,\u00a0<a class=\"definition\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.gov\/Common\/PopUps\/popDefinition.aspx?id=46088&amp;version=patient&amp;language=English&amp;dictionary=Cancer.gov\" type=\"GlossaryTermRefs\">antiviral<\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"definition\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.gov\/Common\/PopUps\/popDefinition.aspx?id=46085&amp;version=patient&amp;language=English&amp;dictionary=Cancer.gov\" type=\"GlossaryTermRefs\">antifungal<\/a>, calming, or energizing effects?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Never give up!<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Rob and Sue had a cat named Buttercup until recently. \u00a0Simba and Chico loved to play with her.\u00a0 During our recent walk, they searched relentlessly all over Rob and Sue\u2019s home to find Buttercup.\u00a0 They did not stop searching for Buttercup until we dragged them back home.<\/p>\n<p>Simba and Chico make themselves happy by not giving up on what they really want.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Always be ready to give and receive affection.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Simba and Chico are always ready for hugs, pets, and belly rubs.\u00a0 When anyone rubs their bellies or pets them, they respond in kind.<\/p>\n<p>Love results in greater happiness, of course!<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>We can learn from everything in our environment, especially from our pets.
