Turn off all personal electronic devices and any other background noise.<\/li>\n<li>Invite the other person to sit down. Sitting when communicating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/27378679\">improves the other person\u2019s impression of your communication skills<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Make eye contact. Eye contact lets the other person know he is the center of your attention and interest.<\/li>\n<li>Let the other person speak first. You might begin by asking a question. \u201cHow do you feel about ______ ( a certain issue)?\u201d\u00a0 Bite your tongue when you are tempted to interrupt!<\/li>\n<li>When he finishes speaking, ask one or two follow up questions.
