{"id":3443,"date":"2017-09-18T12:27:39","date_gmt":"2017-09-18T17:27:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nearariver.com\/?p=3443"},"modified":"2026-09-10T11:22:58","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T15:22:58","slug":"improve-loved-ones-attitude-near-river-bj-rae-eagle-encouraging-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bobbiejrae.com\/nearariver\/improve-loved-ones-attitude-near-river-bj-rae-eagle-encouraging-words\/","title":{"rendered":"Improve Your Loved One\u2019s Attitude!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em>If your loved one needs to improve his attitude, you can help!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Do you enjoy being around someone with a bad attitude?\u00a0 I certainly do not.<\/p>\n<p>You can help someone you care about improve their bad attitude.\u00a0 I used to teach special education high school students.\u00a0 Most had been in car accidents and bike accidents and had just been released from a medical facility.\u00a0 They had just relearned how to dress, eat, and care for themselves.\u00a0 Now they had to relearn how to read so they could pass the state competency exam at the end of the school year.\u00a0 They were angry about their current life circumstances and most had bad attitudes.\u00a0 After I helped them improve their bad attitude toward life, I was able to teach them to read.\u00a0 And the majority of them did pass the competency exam at the end of the school year.<\/p>\n<h5>Here is my guide for changing a bad attitude to a good one.<\/h5>\n<p>First, a \u201cbad attitude\u201d does not mean someone who fails to smile or laugh.\u00a0 It means something entirely different.<\/p>\n<p>What is the difference between a bad attitude and a good attitude?<\/p>\n<p>Having a bad attitude does not mean a person frowns all the time, nor does having a good attitude mean that someone smiles all the time.<\/p>\n<p>A person with a bad attitude has some distinct traits.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Believing that there is always something wrong with others, not with himself. The problem is always someone else\u2019s fault.<\/li>\n<li>Being unwilling to do what might improve a situation.<\/li>\n<li>Lacking consideration for others\u2019 feelings and how his behavior impacts others feelings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A good attitude is exactly the opposite.\u00a0 Someone with a good attitude looks for the real source of the problem, even it is within himself, and tries to improve the situation.\u00a0 He considers others\u2019 feelings and how his behavior impacts other\u2019s feelings.<\/p>\n<p>Someone with a good attitude may not smile most of the time and someone with a bad attitude may not frown all the time.\u00a0 The expression on a person\u2019s face may not truly express his attitude.<\/p>\n<h4>So how can you improve a loved one&#8217;s bad attitude?<\/h4>\n<p>To improve a bad attitude, give<b>\u00a0<\/b>your loved one a reason to care.\u00a0 Word pictures are the best way to do this.<\/p>\n<p>Word-pictures are more than clich\u00e9s, mission statements and inspirational sayings. They are short narratives, stories that communicate on several levels. The best word-pictures use imagery to convey values, unite listeners and simplify complex ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Word pictures connect what a person needs to do with the bigger picture of life.\u00a0 Passionate people\u2013 the self-starters and the go-getters \u2013 already know this and live it every day.\u00a0 Word pictures motivate others and give a sense of purpose.<\/p>\n<p>To create an effective word picture for a particular person, observe the person.\u00a0 What are his interests?\u00a0 What does he truly enjoy doing?\u00a0 Even the most negative person enjoys doing something.\u00a0 After you have identified what interests the person, find interesting and motivating stories that contain that interest.\u00a0 Modify them to suit the person you are trying to help and to convey your message.\u00a0 Then practice saying it in front of a mirror.<\/p>\n<p>After you have practiced painting your word picture in front of a mirror a few times, paint it for the person you are trying to help.\u00a0 You might have to paint more than one word picture before his bad attitude improves.\u00a0 Remember that persistence is the key in this endeavor.<\/p>\n<h4>***<\/h4>\n<p>No one can tell you exactly how to paint a word picture to help the negative person you know.\u00a0 But I can tell you this. Winston Churchill was a master of word-pictures. \u00a0All great leaders have this ability, to one degree or another.
