{"id":4526,"date":"2017-11-17T12:50:38","date_gmt":"2017-11-17T17:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nearariver.com\/?p=4526"},"modified":"2026-09-10T11:22:51","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T15:22:51","slug":"today-near-river-bj-rae-eagle-encouraging-encouragement-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bobbiejrae.com\/nearariver\/today-near-river-bj-rae-eagle-encouraging-encouragement-words\/","title":{"rendered":"If Not Today, When?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em>Don&#8217;t put off until tomorrow what you can do today!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Think about this.\u00a0 It is Christmas Eve, and you still have not done your Christmas shopping.\u00a0 Instead of taking your time in an uncrowded store, now you must shop in elbow to elbow shopping traffic.\u00a0 Your procrastination has taken the joy out of buying gifts for loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>The more you get done each day, the more time you have to do the things you love.\u00a0 And the Christmas season is all about enjoying life with loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>How can you stop procrastinating?\u00a0 Here are some ideas.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Make a list and check it twice!<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Write down what needs to be done today and the deadline for completing it.<\/p>\n<p>This way you do not have to choose what you will do first.\u00a0 You simply do the things with the\u00a0soonest deadline first.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Eliminate distractions<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most of us are distracted by technology and other things constantly.\u00a0 Turn off cell phones and go to a quiet place to accomplish your task if you need to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Discern the reason<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Why are you not willing to clean the bathroom or the garage today?\u00a0 Understanding reasons takes away their power. Once you understand your reasons for procrastinating, you can tell yourself that the task is important and put a positive spin on it. Then you can figure out the steps you need to take to complete it.<\/p>\n<p>Come to grips with the reason you put a task off and you will be able to figure out how to complete the task.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Break bigger tasks down<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sometimes I procrastinate on cleaning the house.\u00a0\u00a0 It takes several hours and I do not enjoy cleaning.\u00a0 However, I do clean the house when I make a list of smaller that tasks are part of cleaning the house and check them off one by one as I complete them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Try changing your environment<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I procrastinated on filing important papers for over a year.\u00a0 Last week, the important papers covered the table in my home office. My office looked like a slob worked there. \u00a0I changed my environment. I set up a small folding table in the basement and carried all the papers to an empty room in the basement.\u00a0 Finally, I got the job done.\u00a0 Today I am free to pack clothing and other things we will need for our winter trip.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4>Spend time with a go getter<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I have a friend who is a go getter.\u00a0 When I spend time with her, I find motivation to get the tasks done.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>You cannot reach a goal by procrastinating.\u00a0 Remember the definition of tomorrow!
