Action is very important!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

What do the words above mean?<\/h4>\n

The entire quote is this,\u00a0 \u201cA bell is not a bell until you ring it.\u00a0 A song is not a song until you sing it.\u00a0 Love in your heart wasn\u2019t put there to stay.\u00a0 Love isn\u2019t love til you give it away.\u201d<\/p>\n

A handwritten note passed to the young actress playing Maria in The Sound of Music<\/u>\u00a0 is the origin of the quote. The lyrics were in the reprise of the song \u201cSixteen going on seventeen\u201d that was omitted from the film.<\/p>\n

Regardless of the origin of these words, they have power.\u00a0 They are about action, not potential.\u00a0 A bell has the potential to ring, but a bell is just inert metal until you ring it.\u00a0 A song is just notes on paper until you sing it.\u00a0 Similarly, the love in your heart is inert until you take action and give it away.<\/p>\n

The action is very important.\u00a0 Love is just a pleasant idea in your heart until you take the action of giving it away.\u00a0 When you act on love, it can be seen and known by others.\u00a0 Sometimes someone else returns it to you, but it can only be returned to you if you first give it away.<\/p>\n

Ideas without action are just thoughts.\u00a0 At work, you must take action of some type to produce actual products or services.\u00a0 You would not be alive if your parents had not acted on their love.\u00a0 And when you were a baby, you had to think about crawling and walking, and then take action to make these things happen.<\/p>\n

The most important part of an action occurs when you begin to take it.\u00a0 This sounds obvious so I will explain.\u00a0\u00a0I like to plan and think things through.\u00a0 When I plan, I plan the first steps to be small enough so I am not intimated. Then I have a \u201cPlan B\u201d for the difficult parts, and then I follow through.\u00a0 I take one of the first small steps as soon as I decide to act.<\/p>\n

Putting these words into action!<\/h4>\n

For example, yesterday I wrote that my husband and I would give each other the joy of giving this year for Christmas.\u00a0 Last night I took the first small step and contacted the family I had been thinking about.\u00a0 This morning I got a money order and mailed the money order to the family to help with their immediate need and also shopped.\u00a0 Now I just need to wrap the gifts and mail them and I am done.<\/p>\n

Where is your bell at the moment?\u00a0 Is it just sitting there, waiting for you to take action?\u00a0 Find a small step and act.\u00a0\u00a0 Ring your bell even if it is just a quiet little tap.<\/p>\n
