Part two in a series of posts on how to mend any relationship.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

In part one of this series of posts, I wrote that the first step in mending any relationship is loving the person unconditionally.\u00a0 First you have to forgive him for what he did to upset you, then you decide to love him unconditionally, and finally you act on your love.<\/p>\n

You show him love through your actions and words.<\/h4>\n

That was the first step of what my Grandma taught me about mending relationships.\u00a0 Step two is difficult to do (just as step one was) but you can do it.\u00a0 It is to give up your need to persuade \u00a0the other person to believe that you are right.<\/p>\n

If you value your relationship with someone, that relationship means more to you than being right in a disagreement.\u00a0 Everyone wants to defend his point of view.\u00a0 Our human brains are probably programmed to defend our own point of view.\u00a0 Being right is the way to avoid the sting of criticism and a way to win.<\/p>\n

So why give up your need to be right?\u00a0 If you believe in God as I do, you might give up your need to be right because God is the only Being who is right.\u00a0 But there is also another reason to give up your need to be right:\u00a0 It feels good.<\/p>\n

Are you struggling in your marriage?\u00a0\u00a0 Give up your need to be right in the other person\u2019s eyes, and you will struggle less.\u00a0 When you struggle less, you will feel peace and happiness and contentment because you brought about this change. You will feel good.<\/p>\n

The need to be right in someone else\u2019s eyes in any relationship feeds negativity.\u00a0 You know what you believe in your heart and the other person does not need to believe the same way you do.\u00a0 He is his own person.\u00a0 So if you want to have a positive relationship, stop trying to convince him you are right and accept him for who he is.<\/p>\n

Just give up your need to be right in the other person\u2019s eyes.<\/h4>\n
