When a storm is coming, all other birds seek shelter. The eagle alone avoids the storm by flying above it. So, in the storms of life may your heart be like an eagle’s and soar above.” – Author Unknown

Your Birthday!

Encouraging you to celebrate your birthday on near a river.

What does your birthday mean to you and to your loved ones?

When I was a child, my birthday was just another ordinary day in the home I grew up in. No birthday card, cake, or gifts. Just another day. I knew it was my birthday, though, because my Grandma always reminded me.

Grandma believed that each person’s birthday was a reason to celebrate his or her life. Each person is special, has unique talents, and makes unique contributions to the world every day. She taught me how to celebrate my birthday even when others around me did not acknowledge this special day.

On your birthday, celebrate your life! If you usually feel down on your birthday, celebrate (be thankful for) your talents and the contributions you have made to the world.

Don’t know what your talents are? If you honestly don’t know, keep a journal and write down what you do each day. Then read over your journal and notice what you do well. Make a list of these things and use your list to find your talents and create your vision for your life.

But if you still do not know what your talents are, you can celebrate your birthday anyway. Look around you for everything that is positive in your life. Make a list of these things, and write the words “thank you” next to each item in your list. And when you begin to feel down again, just reread your list. Your list can include things like having running water and electricity if you cannot think of anything else.

Letting life get you down, especially on your birthday, contributes to depression. Depression contributes to an entire list of health problems, including heart disease and immune system disorders.

So I hope you have a happy day today on your birthday and every other day of your life!
